Matthew 7:7

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.

The song This is the kingdom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDeAXu5np20 sums up what it means to receive in God’s economy.

When we seek first the king, all will be added, including receiving pleasures that He has in store for His sons and daughters. It may not be what we are asking for, but what we receive from a good Father when we keep our eyes fixed on Him is incredible.

This is where trust comes in. For example, one holiday when my parents lived in Far North Queensland, my husband and I took time to explore a natural wonderland, the Atherton Tablelands https://bit.ly/3iFBJ4L The area is filled with waterfalls, swimming holes, crater lakes, and pristine flowing streams. It is known as a waterfall circuit, and by the end of one day, we certainly had not seen or swam in them all.

At that time in our lives, there were many things that we were asking God for, and we felt like the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8 https://bit.ly/3iJ50LL we had definite ideas about what we wanted to receive. However, a good day in nature allowed us to refresh as a couple; we basked in the wonder of rainforests and waterfalls. We could take in the pleasure of God’s creation and receive His pleasure by getting out amongst it and soaking in His presence by marvelling at His creation.

In Genesis 1, five times, God stands back, as it were, and takes stock of his creation. Each time the text says, “And God saw that it was good” (verses 4, 12, 18, 21, 25). Furthermore, when all is finished, and man and woman were created in His own image, the Bible says, “And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.”

It was wonderful to receive such a gift from our Heavenly Father, a day in His creation.

Until next time,
Leisa

  1. Absolutely! I wonder how many of His gifts to us, because they are free, are simply taken for granted and left un-opened? The thought impels me to appreciate every moment around me as much as possible. Thank you. #14

    • That’s what I wonder also, a good reminder to be grateful.

  2. I have come now to believe
    that God is always fair,
and so I ask that I receive
    what someone else can’t bear.
Let me stand ‘fore hell’s dark flame,
and with my body shield another.
I don’t need to know his name,
but know he is my brother.
    Let him have the blessing,
Lord, you set aside for me,
    for I am here confessing
    that there’s hard bright victory
    in standing for another’s pain
to live as Christ, with death as gain.
