The concept was inspired by online viral videos of bakers cutting into their realistic cakes made to look like everyday objects. As the title suggests, the series is a game show where expert bakers try to fool judges tasked with determining whether things are secretly made of cake.
In other words, is it real, or is it fake?
The Bible has much to say about this issue, especially regarding false prophets.
Matthew 7:15
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”
Matthew 24:24
“For false Christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.”
2 Peter 2:1
“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.”
Like the fake cake, sadly, there are counterfeit people (prophets) in the body of Christ who claim they are operating in the Name of Jesus and who lead people away from God. They are not real, but fake!
Read further about another fake person in the Bible called Simon the Sorcerer in ACTS 8:9 “Now for some time, a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great”. The reality was that he was a fraud.
People can be as deceptive as fake cake. One is genuine, and one is fake. Few things are more concerning than when genuine seekers are deceived by frauds. How do you tell the difference between the two?

We need the wisdom and grace of God as we are all vulnerable to deception.
So if you are unsure ask God if they are real or fake?

I just found myself staring at that yellow handbag cake and thinking, but it IS a real cake, though designed to look like a bag… I thought it was very clever. I got a bit confused. Real cake, fake bag.
I guess the deception has to be if a lie is told about the nature of a thing – only then is it a fake? #12

They claim a gift of prophecy,
a word of knowledge for the masses,
but it’s attempted sorcery
that gussied up so often passes
as a grand inspired truth,
when it really just one person’s aims,
and they never offer proof
for all their outlandish claims
of wealth and joy and sudden healing:
“It happened to a certain man,
and through all this God is revealing
His approval for my plan
to build a ministry so large
the world will know that I’M in charge!”
So very true and accurately summarises the reality of false teaching m, we must remain alert and on guard to such deception.
Amen! I’ve been thinking lately how easy it is to slip into complacency and believe lies or half-truths (which amount to the same thing) if we aren’t tuned into God’s Word and what He says is true. May the Lord continue to give us keen sight and discerning hearts!
Yes, we have to be so wise with the amount of fake news and false teachings around, so important to read the word and stay close to God.
