Consumed by his love is far better than being consumed by fear, anxiety, or the need to control every outcome in life. God invites us to trust Him, listen to His still small voice, and rest in His presence during uncertain seasons.

Many people struggle with letting go of control. It can feel terrifying. For some, uncertainty creates physical reactions like shaking, anxiety, sleeplessness, or rising blood pressure. Fear often grows when life feels unstable or outside our control.

Yet God gently invites us into a different way of living.

Psalm 46 reminds us to “Be still, and know that I am God.” Learning to become still before God is part of learning to trust Him. It is often a slow journey of surrender.

Sometimes trusting God means responding to His gentle prompting, even when it feels uncomfortable or irresponsible by the world’s standards. It may mean taking time to rest at the beach, changing jobs, releasing adult children into God’s care, or surrendering a situation that feels suspended between life and death.

In these moments, fear tells us to hold tighter. God invites us to let go.

Perfect love casts out fear because God’s presence brings peace into anxious places. Jesus taught that we do not need to live consumed by worry and anxiety. If He says freedom is possible, then it must be possible through Him.

Recently, I have been practising noticing anxious thoughts when they arise. Instead of allowing them to take over, I pause, breathe, pray, and give them to God. This simple practice has helped me become more aware of His peace and presence.

I have also found the Pause App by John Eldredge helpful, especially the prayer of surrender. It creates space to slow down, listen to God, and remember that He is near.

The more we tune into God’s still, small voice, the more we learn to trust Him with the outcomes we cannot control.

Perfect love casts out fear when we allow ourselves to become consumed by His love instead of our anxieties.

Until next time
