Psalm 121:1-2

I lift up my eyes to the hills– where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

This Psalm reminds us to take our problems to the Lord in prayer.

One of my mother’s favourite hymns was

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
And what a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer

by Joseph Medlicott Scriven (1855)

Mum used to sing this over me when I was little, and it lodged a desire ( I believe) for me to take everything to God in prayer. This year has been challenging. My precious mother went to be with the Lord after a short but aggressive battle with cancer. Taking this grief to God in prayer has been a privilege and comfort. The words of this song by Bethel’ God I look to You’ has been a great source of encouragement and a reminder of the power of prayer when we look to Him.

I don’t know what you are going through today, but I encourage you to not be overwhelmed but to take everything to God in prayer.
